Last day in UOB
My last day in UOB CCOC, sadly. I was mentally prepared when Marcia told me that she had to terminate my assignment cos of the new officer who would be coming in, so i wasnt as upset as i expected myself to be. Nonetheless, there were tinges of sadness as i bid my collegue farewell. Now im only left with the sweet memories that we had shared...
The pin-activated vending machine. It was amusing how a group of boys tried to get a drink by putting money inside, and how they became frustrated that the drink just wouldnt come out.
The office in the early morningThe scenic view from the 18th floor of Hdb Hubmy casting machine for cheque processing
Now, meet the people of cardholder payment
Kamsita, my "mother-in-law". It started when she said she want to introduce me to her son who's around my age but unfortunately, i told her that im attached already, haha. Nonetheless, she has been calling me "daughter-in-law" ever since and took really really good care of me. I would never go hungry in the office cos she kept on feeding me from her drawer of food.I love you too, ita!Zahari. Work can never be boring with him around. He never failed to motivate us with "you can do it!" and entertained us with "once upon a time, in year ..." stories. Kelly who i really enjoyed talking with since she's of my age and we can talk about quite many things. I will miss our 430 tea break at the vending machine...Connie my lunch partner who always treat me to dessert.Emily, the officer-in-charge. She is a capable young lady who has taught me quite a lot about cheque processing.
Lee fong who just joined us 2 weeks ago. I love talking to her and it's such a pity that i didnt get to know her a little better before i leave.AdzimDoreen, who introduced me to the very very nice and worth it fish soup at toa payoh which i eat at least once a week!Last but not least, my fellow temp collegue, Jana. We can really talk about everything under the sun and i was so sad that she was on mc on my last day :(
The ladies in cardholder payment. Notice the numbers on the board, that's our daily volume and unfortunately, on my last day, it hit the 10, 000 mark and i had to do overtime. It's ok, i would want to stay inside a while more...
Thanks everyone, for taking care of me and the farewell lunches and gifts.
So that concluded my 4 and a half months stay in uob. I really couldnt bear to leave, i had gained valuable working experience during this period and i had made many friends who treated me with such kindness i wouldnt know how to repay them. I would miss working there.
Now im officially jobless. Im too lazy to look for another job now, maybe i would try different things. Like sales, or waitressing, that would be quite a different experience even though pay may be pathetic. In 2 more months, i would be entering another phase of life and oddly, im not really looking forward to it.

Margarita's
In celebration of jianglei getting into Nus medicine, we decided to dine at somewhere slightly more exotic rather than the usual italian, japanese or american cuisine. And so, we ended up at Margarita's, which is located just next to Al Forno and serves mexican food. The place was rather packed when we went in, and we noted that most of the people dining there were westerners.I like the interior, very cosy and colourful.(The tables looked empty only because i took the photos after the customers had finished their meals and left)In most western restaurants, they would serve bread before your appetizer. However, here in Margarita's, they served tortilla chips with the nicest salsa sauce ever! Imagine my extreme delight when i saw them place my favorite chips on the table :D
We didnt know what to order at all since we have never tried mexican before. After asking the waitress for her recommendation, we decided to try the giant mushroom for appetizer.
Looks nice right?Very very juicy and even tasted a bit like meat! I swear i've never eaten a more thick- textured mushroom before.
As for the main course, I wanted to order their Mole Poblano at first but the waiter advised me against it cos it tastes quite different and most locals couldnt accept it. It's the king of mexican cuisine and is a special chicken dish that uses chocolate, nuts, fruits and chilli. It does seem like a weird combination. Therefore, to be on the safe side, me and jianglei decided to share their beef with 5 special sauces instead.
Carne asada la campestre completa para tados which is black angus beef served with tortilla, tropical fruit salad, guacamole, salsa, baked bean and avocado. A very unique cuisine indeed, and we quite enjoyed it.
I would have loved to take a decent photo of it but i was told that photography of food was not allowed after they saw me capturing a shot of the appetizer. What a waste.
As for dessert, we had their to-die-for Kahlua tiramisu. The top layer was kahlau chocolate and strong mexican coffee, followed by cheese and the last layer was sponge fingers. Very delicious i would say.
We are certainly going back and the next time round, i shall be more daring and try their mole!

Matsuo Sushi
Located at a quiet corner in goldhill plaza, Matsuo Sushi is the place to go for if you are looking for quality sashimiThe counter where the freshest sashimi is madeReservation is recommended, especially for the weekends, cos the place is small and cosy and couldnt accommodate too many people. Believe me, it seems like a popular eatery.Table of food. At first we thought we ordered quite little but in fact, it was a lot!Our sashimi set. The sashimi was so so fresh and nice!It looked like a rather small serving but trust me, it made both of us so full we wouldnt want to eat sashimi for the next few weeks or so.
chawanmushi which tasted quite plain compared to that from sakae sushipotato salad with ham miso soup
unagi nigiri, our favorite jap food!!!some appetizer thingy
the colorful bento set whoa, the prawn was huge!
sushioctopus sashimi
prawn, tasted quite different but very nice.As minxuan put it, it was so fresh she could almost feel them squirming down her throat. What a way to describe it, haha.
tempura which was a little too oily.Nonetheless, i still loved it cos it's so crispy!
the fried mushroom, pumpkin and tapioca minxuan and i, after a very filling meal
In a nutshell, food was great(though price is a bit steep) but service sucks, unfortunately. Usually when you patronize a Japanese restaurant, you would be greeted with enthusiastic "Irashaimase (welcome)!". However, the waitresses there were rather hostile and i didnt see them smile at all throughout the whole dinner. What a pity, for i would have liked the restaurant a lot more had the service been more hospitable.

But well, it wasnt as bad as i thought. Thank goodness i had the book which jianglei lent me to keep me company on the long ride there. It's like the only non-fiction book that im so drawn into cos there are so many elements of cognitive psychology in it. I find it so amazing that all those psychology theories and ideas discussed in the book, absurd as they may sound, are really facts that probably never occur to anyone of us before. I was like *gasp* everytime the author presents a result that is so shocking that i really dont want to believe it's true. It's really interesting and im more determined to study psychology than ever.
I had a nice long talk with one of the seniors at the psychology booth and i discovered that i can actually bid for the intro module with just 1 point with my result. What good news!
However, the sad news is that it's super duper hard to practise clinical psychology in Singapore. I was told that one of the professors in NUS has wrote numerous thesis and papers and still failed to qualify as one. In order to qualify, i would need lots of internship and write lots of papers and i MUST further my studies overseas for a few more years. Now, that's the catch. It's almost impossible for any foreigners to get into a US university for psychology cos the acceptance rate is very very low. The other available option would be Melbourne U but it's just not as good. With so many years of studies, it's just as bad as studying medicine.
Im really interested in becoming a clinical psychologist but i must admit that i was a little dishearten after what the senior said. Nonetheless, i would still try my best. Otherwise, perhaps i would just be an industrial psychologist which seems pretty interesting as well. Well oh well, hope i made the right choice in choosing FASS when there are actually better options available. I've really given it all for psychology.
After the open house, i met jianglei at orchard and boy, there were already crazy sales everywhere when it's not even GSS yet!
Bought this nice jacket from Fox. I wanted to buy it a long time ago but didnt have the cash for it and guess what? It was on 30% discount and the offer was simply too tempting for me to ignore!
Now, im a very poor girl and the real sales is only starting next week!
