Margarita's

In celebration of jianglei getting into Nus medicine, we decided to dine at somewhere slightly more exotic rather than the usual italian, japanese or american cuisine. And so, we ended up at Margarita's, which is located just next to Al Forno and serves mexican food. The place was rather packed when we went in, and we noted that most of the people dining there were westerners.I like the interior, very cosy and colourful.(The tables looked empty only because i took the photos after the customers had finished their meals and left)

In most western restaurants, they would serve bread before your appetizer. However, here in Margarita's, they served tortilla chips with the nicest salsa sauce ever! Imagine my extreme delight when i saw them place my favorite chips on the table :D
We didnt know what to order at all since we have never tried mexican before. After asking the waitress for her recommendation, we decided to try the giant mushroom for appetizer.

Looks nice right?Very very juicy and even tasted a bit like meat! I swear i've never eaten a more thick- textured mushroom before.
As for the main course, I wanted to order their Mole Poblano at first but the waiter advised me against it cos it tastes quite different and most locals couldnt accept it. It's the king of mexican cuisine and is a special chicken dish that uses chocolate, nuts, fruits and chilli. It does seem like a weird combination. Therefore, to be on the safe side, me and jianglei decided to share their beef with 5 special sauces instead.

Carne asada la campestre completa para tados which is black angus beef served with tortilla, tropical fruit salad, guacamole, salsa, baked bean and avocado. A very unique cuisine indeed, and we quite enjoyed it.

I would have loved to take a decent photo of it but i was told that photography of food was not allowed after they saw me capturing a shot of the appetizer. What a waste.

As for dessert, we had their to-die-for Kahlua tiramisu. The top layer was kahlau chocolate and strong mexican coffee, followed by cheese and the last layer was sponge fingers. Very delicious i would say.

We are certainly going back and the next time round, i shall be more daring and try their mole!
